Halloween 2020 Costumes

Last year, I had intended to upload my yearly Halloween photos, but time got in the way and one week quickly turned into a month — then another, then yet another — and here we are less than half a year to our next Halloween and they are still sitting on my phone.

Well, my friends, no longer! Today I am finally posting them. Quick disclaimer, this is my roommate, my friend and next door neighbor, and my boyfriend. It was a safe and socially distanced holiday. Also, curling my hair to dress up as Michael Emerson - worth it, but I will never do that again. Two hours. Two HOURS!

Movie Monster Cocktails

As I just love a fun themed cocktail and I spend a lot of time promising myself I will eventually use that chemistry cocktail set my friends gave me three years ago, I couldn't help but wonder - - are there other horror fans out there who've already done the legwork for me so that when I pull out my Friday the 13th set or my Ash Vs. Evil dead collection I've already got a recipe?

That was a stupid question. Of course there are. Below are some videos I've found that seemed to fit the theme best, provided they didn't use Falernum. I hate Falernum, sorry gang. Also, please be sure to check out the other videos these guys have made if you enjoyed them. They've got some pretty cool stuff. Incidentally, a note of advice about flavored whipped creams if you're struggling to find them, use 1/2 - 1 tsp of a flavored extract and blend it with heavy whipping cream. It'll save you the legwork. If you want it sweeter, use a coffee syrup instead. Torani and Da Vinci are two of my preferred brands thanks to their sugar free options.

Continuing from where we left off with Famous Monsters, this section contains some stories and more cool film info. Later today I'll be sharing our latest podcast episode too, hopefully. Provided I can finish the editing in time!

Halloween 2019 Playlist

I'm going to be honest, there was very little rhyme or reason to this Halloween playlist except to have something playing in the background at your Halloween party if you want something for the wallflowers to watch. Or, you know, the horror nerds like us who like just about everything Halloween!

Low Carb Sweets

I have something I need to confess to you guys. I don't eat sugar. I don't eat bread. God help me, I don't even eat pasta anymore. This would be a massive challenge if I didn't like experimenting with recipes and had no ability to make my own food. This year I decided to share a pinterest board for the yearly October recipe finds and focus on the low carb stuff. From cookies to cake, please enjoy these wonderful recipes I've found across the web.

Trust me, if I could just embed it here, I would.

Am hurriedly trying to finish the streaming list for the year, I promise! In the meantime, enjoy my October 1st pick, What We Become (Hulu)

Today I'd like to feature a video by Art Sherpa who does fun acrylic tutorials throughout the year. Below is the painting I made from her video, and below THAT is the actual video if you want to try it yourself. Happy October!

You want a blockbuster special? Well kid, you got it. That's right, everyone's favorite Halloween movies at long last. No more Loomis. No more Jamie. All Michael, all the time! Can Corey and Maddy survive to the very end? Probably not, but they tried their best! In this episode we discuss H20 and Resurrection.

Check out this episode!

Mod Podge Coffee Table

I pride myself on 'planning' to do things. I always 'plan' to decorate for the holidays (Christmas and Halloween being the big ones), but always finding a reason to put it off until the big day is gone--and why would I be decorating for Halloween in November? This isn't a holiday themed post, however, it's a project I've been meaning to get to since I was 23. Buying a crappy coffee table and mod podging the hell out of it with horror lobby cards.

Not to worry. The cards were re-prints. I'm not a monster. Below is the table in question, a chipped piece of pressed wood junk I got from Goodwill for 5 bucks. Cleaned the surface and prepped my paint in a Halloween-themed paper plate.

Started by sloppily giving the edge of the tabletop a black coat just to cover up the worst of the scratches.

After that, because I had a crap-ton of paint leftover, figured I might as well use what I could just in case there were spaces in-between the lobby cards--or I gave up and decided I would just have a weird painted monster instead of a mod podge masterpiece.

Hey, those bits there kinda look like bats! Totally intentional.

Rounded edges on the table, so I had to use a hobby knife to trim the corners of the cards. Then globbed on the mod podge glue like there was no tomorrow. Quick tip - - an 8 oz bottle is never enough. Lesson learned.

Not gonna lie, halfway through I stopped caring about precision, and more about just finishing it. So I dumped half the bottle out.

Finished layering the cards. Wiped off the top to brighten up the pictures a bit. Sprayed some sealant and BOOM!
